Our History

In November of 2008, Larry & Rosana, along with 3 other families had the very first meeting of The Refuge. They met in a home and, as they say, the rest is history. By February of 2009 the group had grown to the point of needing a larger meeting space, and so they rented a small store-front space in the Morton Plaza shopping center in Denison, Texas. After a few months additional space was needed for in order to begin ministering to the children, so The Refuge expanded to an additional space next door to the space already in use.

God began to send the hurting, lonely, addicted and wounded of our community and by the end of 2010 The Refuge was overflowing, not only with people, but also with the presence of God. Lives were being transformed and, once again, it was time to make a move.

In May of 2011 a contract was signed with the property owner to begin renovating a 7000 square foot space in the shopping plaza in order to house the ministry of The Refuge. On Easter Sunday, 2012, The Refuge conducted our first service in the current facility!

God has been good to The Refuge and we are extremely blessed. Life has not always been fair to many of us who call this our home, but in Christ, we have found favor in spite of it all.
