Our Leadership

Appreciate your pastoral leaders who gave you the Word of God. Take a good look at the way they live, and let their faithfulness instruct you, as well as their truthfulness. There should be a consistency that runs through us all. For Jesus doesn’t change—yesterday, today, tomorrow, he’s always totally himself. ~ Hebrews 13:7-8 ( The Message MSG)

Leland and Barb Samuelson

Pastoral Care Directors and Worship Leaders

Leland & Barb have lived, worked and served in Grayson County for over 30 years. Married in 1979, they raised two children who have now started their own families. In 2017, they discovered the joys of grandparenting! They enjoy patio dining, road trips, beaches and mountains.

Together they have held diverse positions in area churches. In 2016, Leland & Barb reconnected with Pastors Larry & Rosana in what was thought to be a temporary assignment. As often happens, the Lord began making subtle adjustments to their plans. After only a few months, it became apparent that they were home.

“It is our belief that The Refuge is poised for spectacular ‘kingdom’ exploits, and we are excited to be part of the team”

Vickie Gaskins

Prayer Team Leader

Formerly engaged in the marketplace, Vickie Dalton Gaskins retired as Vice President and Controller of a luxury custom home building company in 2007 to pursue a call to missions and ministry. After Hurricane Ike in 2008, Vickie served at Somebody Cares America/International as their Ministry Outreach Coordinator where she met and married her husband Terry in 2009. In 2012, they formed Rise To The Time and became Somebody Care’s Mobile Outreach Center, responding as needed to multiple disasters as SCA ambassadors. Moving back to her hometown in 2013 in part to care for her aging mother, Vickie senses a call to missions – right at home.  In early 2015, Vickie opened Denison, Texas’ first Community Garden and Prayer & Training Center.

Vickie has been called to be an intercessor and finds the greatest joy in praying with others as they meet with Jesus and find healing.

Austin and Yazmin Cruz

Young Adult Leaders

Austin and Yazmin are high school sweethearts. Austin was in the Navy for 4 years and is now a Denison police officer.  Yazmin teaches at a private school in Sherman. When they are not leading the young adult's ministry or doing announcements, they are both very active and love being outdoors.  Austin loves to cook and you will hear Yazmin encouraging him on since she says she isn't very good at it. She quoted, "We are far from perfect, but we are perfectly imperfect children of a good Father.  God has been so so good to us."
